Plain English guidance about Autism, ADHD, and the assessment journey

Understanding Autism

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is a neurodevelopmental difference that affects how a person communicates, interacts with others, and experiences the world. Every autistic person is unique.

✨ Signs you might notice in children

  • • Delayed or unusual speech development
  • • Avoiding eye contact
  • • Intense focus on specific interests
  • • Difficulty with changes in routine
  • • Sensitivity to sounds, lights, or textures

🌿 Signs in adults (including masking)

  • • Social exhaustion after work/events
  • • Replaying conversations (rumination)
  • • Difficulty with unwritten social rules
  • • Burnout cycles
  • • History of being called "too sensitive"
💡 Remember: Many autistic people, especially women and girls, learn to "mask" their traits. If you see yourself or your child in these descriptions, an assessment can provide clarity.

Understanding ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects executive functions: working memory, impulse control, organisation, and emotional regulation.

📋 Inattention signs

  • • Losing things constantly
  • • Difficulty finishing tasks
  • • Easily distracted
  • • Poor time management
  • • Daydreaming

⚡ Hyperactivity/Impulsivity signs

  • • Restlessness (internal or physical)
  • • Interrupting conversations
  • • Acting without thinking
  • • Emotional intensity
  • • Difficulty waiting

ADHD often co-occurs with Autism, and anxiety. Our assessment explores all possibilities.
